Goggly

I am very sure that Sherlock Holmes would have best suited to today's world or I should say he would have enjoyed this period of time. If not all aspects of this new age world, he would have been pleased to use 'Google'.Why do we search everything in Google? Why do we refer Wikipedia for all our doubts? Why do we need a calculator for 40+50? Technology is used for factual verification, a spell check, information check and calculations. Is there an increased level of intellectual laziness? Are we lazy to refer our memory or is it just being sure about facts? The above are not observations, but these are my personal habits. When I discuss about something to my friends and there is a doubt about facts, the sentence I invariably use is, “Facts should not be debated about and they should be verified”. I have always thought that this would be the perfect approach. But by ignoring these small exercises to our brain, are we making it lazy? An active brain can face situations and take decisions in crucial circumstances. Even if there is possibility more technological advancement, I doubt that no machine can think like a human being and no technology will be able improvise in crisis situation. Let me consider the example of a cardio surgery done to a teenager. The heart was being operated for a peculiar problem and the doctors were stunned to see that the auricles and ventricles of the boy’s heart were not in the usual way. But they managed to successfully complete the surgery. What if this situation was encountered by a robot? I don’t think even a well-developed robotic system could tackle a situation like this. In simple terms, technology is like the kite’s string and human intervention is like the wind. Perfect direction can be achieved by wind, but the kite will not rise without wind. Ignoring the technological advancement may not be possible, but it is important be capable of managing without technology. It is also a dangerous trend to dismiss use of technology as laziness. Even while typing these words I had to avail the facility of word check for more than 20 times. But the word check can only suggest changes in few areas, can it point logical errors, incoherent ideas and wrong usage of words. That would be simple explanation to how the technology can help us and what its limitations are.
