Post Master

Today after a long time I went to the Post office to pay the electricity bill. As I was entering I saw a post box which was isolated from the main road. As a kid my mom often took me to the post office to post letters to my grandmother who stayed in a village in Karnataka. It was my hobby to put the letters in the post box especially on the occasion of Christmas. The hand going in the mouth of the post box was something I liked. The post master’s uniform fascinated me. Today when I saw that post box so lonely I so much wished if I had a letter to post. The red post box just reminded me that I had lost the joy of writing letters. In today’s world we have many means to stay in touch with our loved ones through phone, emails and video calling. But yet the joy of writing letter is different. It was nice to see my Maa write letters and hear her read the reply of those letters in Konkani. In school we learnt how to write formal and informal letters and it was fun writing to some imaginary friend or some authorized person. Hope we all get back the joy of writing letters to our loved ones and especially this is for kids who write letters with so much of innocence. Spread love and happiness to all and be the best post master.

  1. All these modern amenities are taking away the joy in doing things the "old skool" way. I remeber my Mom used to send Rakhi's to her brothers in karnataka.Never did she recieved a revert from them though!! :P :P
But now when there are cellphones available...my Mom just calls them up every Raksha Bandhan. I know she may be missing the "letter writings"...but as there are more convinient ways available so she is not willing to write...
