As a kid i was very fascinated with booth polish happening on Mumbai railway stations.Used to love the sound of the brush the guy used to make to get customers. I also assoicated my liking for this with the Hindi movie Boot Polish in 1954, a song on boot polish which i used to sing. I remember my dad standing on the boot stand with all pride to get his shoes polished, while i stood by watching the man who polished it with so much dedication. Always used to wonder what kind of attitude people had when they offered their shoes to be polished. For me looked like a sign of slavery. After few times watching i realized that people travel in crowed trains in Mumbai and then to cover up their badly spoilt shoes by co-passangers they get their shoes polished before they reach office or some wedding/party. In recent years i didnt see them around, was wondering if there is no business for booth polish or the trend has died off. One fine day while waiting for the train, this boot polish stuff caught my attention, where the box was chained. It just reminded me of one's bread and butter in a form of service, which i always questioned. Lets liberate this boot polish and polish ourselves. Lets connect this experience of mine to our human revolution.
